Upward @ Eastland Day Serving Opportunities

Child PrayingA great way you can serve is by committing to pray for this event.  We will have hundreds of people from our community join us on Sunday, February 26.  Be praying that God will work in the hearts and lives of people on this special morning.

We are expecting a large crowd during our 11am service, which means we will have an even greater need for volunteers for both our nursery and children’s areas.  Please contact Nancy Hall if you would be willing to help serve with the children.

Pizza GamesFollowing the 11am service time, we will be serving food (pizza, drinks, and popcorn) to all our Upward families in the FLC Gym.  Please contact Jill Ball if you would be willing to help serve food following the 2nd service.

From 12:15-2:30pm, we are going to have a carnival type atmosphere in the FLC Gym for all our Upward families. There will be inflatables, carnival games, and prizes. You can contact Mike Spencer about helping out with the games for the kids.

If interested in any of these areas of serving please email the church office and we will direct you with the correct email address or contact number for the team volunteers leaders in each area.

Upward At Eastland Day

Sunday February 26th, 2012 – 11 AM Service

Upward participants and their families are all invited to join us Sunday, February 26th for our 11am service. As a church we would like to take time to celebrate all the people who have played a part in our Upward program this year. Feel free to dress casually. Upward attire would be very appropriate for this special day.

Teams are encouraged to meet in the church lobby and sit together during the Upward celebration part of the service. Following that time, kids 4 years old through the 4th grade will be dismissed for a specially designed church service just for them. After the service, parents can pick up their kids and head to the FLC Gym.

From approximately 12:15-2:30pm, we will have a carnival type atmosphere for all our Upward families to enjoy. There will be food, games, and lots of prizes. Upward pictures and end of the year awards will also be on hand for families to pick up.

Following the 11AM service (12:15pm-2:30pm) we will have lunch (Joe Bologna on site making his famous pizzas) for the Upward families in the FLC Gym.  Other activities in the FLC Gym will include…
- Upward highlight video
- Handing out of awards
- Distribution of individual/team pictures
- Big Win grand prize announcement

Upward Big Win PDF Print E-mail
The ultimate goal of Upward Sports is to introduce children to Jesus Christ by creating opportunities to serve through sports.  Here at Eastland our desire is to see children experience a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and then grow in this relationship by connecting and being part of a local church.

With this goal in mind, we have decided to put together a fun 8 week competition.  These weekly team competitions will be taking place on Sunday mornings.  Here is how everything will work.

•    We will have weekly competitions that include both Upward basketball teams and cheerleading squads.
•    These competitions will revolve around Upward participants attending a Sunday morning worship service, either at Eastland Church or their home church.
•     Each week the Upward team/squad that earns the most points, due to their Sunday morning attendance, will receive a prize.

We realize that not all teams have the same number of participants.  We will take that difference into account by dividing the total number of points a team earns by the total possible number of points that a team could earn.  The team/squad with the highest percentage of points earned will be the winning team.  Competition Sunday’s will last from January 7 through February 25.

The team/squad that gets the highest percentage of points on a Competition Sunday will receive their team prize on the next Upward Gameday.  The team/squad with the highest percentage of points over the course of the season will receive a Grand Prize at the end of the year event on Sunday, February 26.  In the event of a tie we will have a drawing to determine the winning team.  Teams can only win twice during the eight week long competition.  A team can win once during the first four weeks and once during the last four weeks of the season.

Here is how to participate in Upward Big Win:
•    Attend a Sunday morning church service during the competition weeks.
•    Then go to www.eastland.org and login under the Upward page.
•    Fill out and submit online the required Big Win information (Participant name, team name, church, and date of church service attended).
•    Submission of online information must be done by Monday’s at 5pm during the Big Win season in order to count.
•    An Upward participant will earn 1 point for his or her team by attending church and then successfully submitting the online information.

Below is a list of some of the team prizes that will be awarded this season:

•    Chick-fil-A meals
•    Explorium tickets
•    Fro-Jo’s yogurt
•    Movie tickets to Cinemark Fayette Mall

If you are interested in learning more about upward and how this program is structured on a corporate level please visit www.upward.org.

Welcome!

I’m really glad you have chosen to have your children participate in the Upward program here at Eastland.  Upward offers an evangelistic ministry specifically designed for boys and girls in grades K through 8th that promotes salvation, character, and self-esteem in every child.

As a church we are constantly striving to make this the best program possible for the families in our community.  A lot of planning and prayer has gone into this coming season, and we are confident that you and your children will have a great year being involved in Upward basketball and cheerleading.

This season is not just about teaching your children basketball skills or cheerleading fundamentals.  Its also about sharing God’s love with everyone who walks through our gym doors.  Here at Eastland we feel like we have a lot to offer your family outside of athletics.  If you currently do not have a church home we would love for you to come visit us.

Thanks and God Bless!

Softball Field Maintenance PDF Print E-mail

Softball MaintenanceWe have a need to maintain the ECOG field.  In March, we'll schedule a Saturday work day to take care of the major items, but we also need a few volunteers to help with the following tasks.

  • Mowing
  • Weed around the fences
  • Drag/Weed the Infield
  • Repair the Pitchers Net
  • Repair Bleachers (If we think anyone else would use the field for games)
  • Install new Bases (We have these)
  • Install New Pitchers plate (we need one of these)
  • Fill in Holes that water stands in
  • Any other tasks we think we need

Field Mowing:
We are also taking volunteers to help keep the field groomed and mowed throughout the spring and summer.  Last season, we had several who helped out, which meant that each person only had to mow once or twice.

If you are interested in helping, please contact Jeff Birch.  We'd like to set a schedule that would only require each person to work once a month or so.  Anyway, we NEED your help and will gladly work with your schedule.
