 Liberty Elementary (Updated Information)
Eastland Church has teamed up with Liberty Elementary to help students in need. Each week we collect food items that are then taken over to Liberty Elementary and put in backpacks for students to take home during the weekend. Pick up a list of items at the Welcome Center. You can also get involved in packing backpacks on Thursday afternoon. The contact information is on the list at the Welcome Center or you can email the Church Office. We currently have 9 families in the program and are ready to expand as needed. If every one of us bought one item every time we went to the grocery, it would add very little to our bill, but add so much to another family's life.
On March 29th, we will be packing an extra box of food to help feed our families for the week of spring break. There are a total of 26 meals over the course of that week and we want to cover as many of those as we can. Please bring food items in by March 28th. Items for this week can vary from the normal list we use.
As all of you know, we have developed a great relationship with Liberty Elementary. I feel strongly that part of our responsibility as a church is to minister to the community around our church; often times that means looking for needs that we can meet, but every once and a while the community brings the needs to us. I recently received an email from one of the teachers at Liberty Elementary who discovered that the only substantial meal some of her kids are getting is at school. When the weekends roll around the food is very limited. This teacher has decided to start a backpack program where she will pack backpacks with enough food to get the kids through the weekend. Right now she is just working with a small number of students. The teacher spoke to the Resource Coordinator at Liberty Elementary and the advice she received was to contact Eastland Church of God. It’s an honor to be asked to help. Below is a list of items the teacher needs to help the students. Would you be willing to share this list with your group or class and help with the cause? You can bring your food to the church and we will make sure it gets delivered to the teacher.

Individual microwaveable meals (like Chef Boy Ardee Ravioli or Campbell’s soup to Go)
Shelf-stable individual milk boxes (like Horizon Organic or Organic Valley)
Microwaveable rice packets or cups (like Minute Rice Ready to Serve)
Small boxes of raisins
Fruit cups
Applesauce cups
Vegetable cups
Individual microwaveable meals
Individual Mac n’ cheese
Instant oatmeal
Granola bars
Pudding cups
Instant soups
Peanut butter/cheese crackers
Tuna (pouches or can that doesn’t need a can opener)
Please remember that there should be no glass, cans that need a can opener, family-size items or perishables.
Drop off your donations to Eastland Church by Thursday of each week.
