Reverend James C. Burchett was born, in New Boston, Ohio on April 25, 1932, the second child of four to the parents of Reverend and Mrs. J. H. Burchett. Being in a Minister's family, he has lived in many places.
His preschool days were spent in South Shore, Kentucky before moving to Nitro, West Virginia where he completed his first ten years of school. He graduated from Thomas A. DeVilbiss High School in Toledo, Ohio in June 1950.
That same year he enrolled in Anderson College, Anderson, Indiana, where he received a grant-in-aid scholarship to play football. It was while in College that he met and married Miss Carolyn J. Carmichael from Lanett, Alabama, and they both graduated with Bachelor Degrees in 1955. Jim and Carolyn have four children, Cynthia, Michael, Darla, and Scott. Jim and Carolyn have been married. for 50 years.
He has done Graduate Studies at Marshall University, Huntington, West Virginia and Wake Forest Seminary in North Carolina. Jim was awarded a Masters and Doctors of Ministry Degrees from International Seminary, Plymouth, Florida.
Reverend Burchett has served the church at: Second Church of God in Springfield, Ohio 2 years, First Church of God, Concord, North Carolina, 7.5 years; Trinity Church of God, Huntington, West Virginia, 8.5 years; and Dayspring Church of God, Cincinnati, Ohio, for 20 years.
While in Concord, North Carolina, he led the Church in a significant advancement program which included a modern new Educational Building. He served as President of the Ministerial Association for 2 years, as President of the Southern Convention of the Church of God for 2 years, where he helped start Warner Southern College in Florida, and graduated from the School of Pastoral Care and Chaplaincy at North Carolina Baptist Hospital.
Moving to Huntington in 1963, he led the local congregation in the relocation and erection of new church facilities valued in excess of $500,000. He was elected as a member of the Cabell County Board of Education, the first clergyman to ever have that distinction. He produced and was speaker of a TV program (MACT), on the NBC affiliate while working with the Graduate Department of Marshall University.
In his twenty years as Pastor of Dayspring Church of God in Cincinnati Ohio, he led the congregation in a major relocation move to a beautiful 13 acre site along the interstate, and built a contemporary $3.1 million facility.
His speaking engagements have taken him all over the country. He has been honored to speak at his Church's International Convention, plus many of the state conventions. He was the first person to serve his Church two terms as Program Chairman or the International Convention, and the youngest man to ever hold that office. He served for eight years on the Publication Board of Warner Press, five years on the Board of Gulf Coast Bible College, and served two terms as a member of the General Assembly Business Committee. He has served as a member of the Seminary Advisory Committee; a member of the Steering Committee of the Credentials Committee. He has served as Chairperson of the Southwest Ohio District of the Church of God. His name appears in 'Outstanding West Virginia, 'Personalities or the South", "Who's Who in Religion and an 'Honored Member, l996/97 National Directory of Who's Who." He presently serves on the Board of Trustees of Mid America Bible College in Oklahoma City.
In 1989 he formed a new Broker/Dealer firm, Regal investments, Inc. to serve the Church financially through, a Church Bond Issue. Dr. Burchett serves as Founder/President of Royal Ministries Inc. in Roswell, GA- Royal Ministries was founded in 1997 to serve the church through Capital Stewardship Campaigns; Leadership Seminars; Travel with purpose. He joined the staff as Vice President of Share Financial Services, Inc_ with home offices in greater Dallas, Texas area. He and Carolyn reside in Alpharetta, GA, the happy grandparents of eleven grandchildren.
